How to use the hand gesture synth
- Start the instrument. Click the play button, allow webcam access and keep both hands inside the frame.
- Choose your harmony. Raise fingers on your left hand to select a scale degree, then tilt to move between major and minor.
- Shape the sound. Use your right hand for chord color, octave, filter and volume. Try the key and tone menus for a different feel.

A private gesture controlled synth
Gesture Synth combines browser hand tracking with Web Audio. Camera frames stay on your device: they are analyzed in real time and are not sent to a server by this tool.
For the clearest tracking, face a light source, keep your hands separated and use a plain background. Desktop gives you the most room, but the instrument also adapts to modern mobile browsers.

What is a gesture synth?
It is a musical instrument controlled by movement instead of keys or knobs. This version uses a webcam to translate hand poses into harmony and sound controls.
Does Gesture Synth upload my camera video?
No. Hand tracking runs locally in your browser. The camera feed is used only while this page is open and is not uploaded by the tool.
Can I use Gesture Synth on a phone?
Yes, if your mobile browser supports camera access. A landscape phone position or larger screen makes two-hand gestures easier.
Why can’t the synth see my hands?
Use even front lighting, move farther from the camera and make sure both hands fit fully inside the frame. Avoid placing one hand directly in front of the other.
